We make your cryo-EM sample preparation more reliable

CryoWrite develops automated sample preparation robots for cryo-EM. Our first product is the cryoWriter. This is a pipette-based robot that can dispensing nanoliter volumes of samples on a cryo-EM grid. As a result, this makes the technology blottless, thus omitting the potentially harmfull blotting step. There are many other features that address some of the crucial challenges during cryo-EM sample preparation. In addition, our pipette based solution enables new, unique features that rely on the capillary for sample manipulation.

Prof. Henning Stahlberg
Prof. Henning Stahlberg, LBEM, EPFL/UNIL: “The CryoWriter offers us the unique possibility to prepare excellent cryo-EM grids from much less than one microliter of sample, and then continue using most of the remaining sample of that microliter volume for other experiments”

How to…: General info about cryo-EM and cryo-ET

Do you want to learn more about the principles of cryo-EM and cryo-ET? Researchers at the University of Utah give a great overview from sample purification, grid prepration, screen and evaluation to data collection and image processing. Their website, cryoem101.org, contains chapters for the different steps in the workflow. The text is illustrated with videos and animations and interactive simulations, well explaining what is going on.

Chapter 2 contains many aspects and challenges to consider during grid preparation.
